No, she’s not squinting.

Paige Carbaugh, whose son Justin was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and abuse of a corpse, speaks to the media on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, outside the York County Judicial Center after the verdict was announced. Justin Carbaugh was convicted of killing his older brother and Paige's son Brandon and dismembering his fingers and one of his legs in Aug. 2010. Following the verdict, Paige Carbaugh expressed gratitude to defense attorney Steve Rice. "People who know me know I would never make up something or lie about one of my children to save another one," said Carbaugh, who said she was satisfied with the verdict.

This caption (about the squinting) seems unprofessionally callous after all this poor woman’s been through. It’s a great shot, but I think the presentation could be a little more sympathetic to the subject whose name and misery you’ve exploited for your site.
Because this is an editorial blog — in which I don’t pronounce opinions or my own perspective on news events — I thought it best to minimize what commentary I wrote for this blog post.
Because the sunlight is falling very harshly on her face, I thought it best to clarify that she was not squinting.
Some people have interpreted her expression to be one of relief or acceptance; others think she was crying and/ feeling bittersweet. I’m letting readers of this blog interpret the photo as they will, but the least I can offer is that she was not squinting.
That makes more sense. I didn’t read the sunlight angle into it at all. Thanks for the clarification, and again, it’s a good shot.
